Step 3. ????, with work by Lily Bloom, Romane Courdacher, and Michelle Lee Johnson, marks the third entry in a four-part inquiry into our times. The series follows a persistent momentum—a pursuit where a drive for results collides with uncertainty.
A generative machine's utopic vision of space may overlook the circulation of human bodies within. Over the course of Steps 1 through 4, the same spatial parameters are reshuffled, offering a glitched, virtual interpretation of a simple architectural premise. A dice roll determines the arrangement of the space, creating absurd outcomes. The installation's core elements are suspended between ornament and function, ascension and concealment, challenging the limits of the gallery space and its vantage points.
The third step is a stage of confusion. A grey area, hung between private and public, between the codified esoteric and the mundanely… mundane. Here, my accidental record becomes your inner creed, perhaps the fundament of your existence. The advance of surveillance—a soft reminder that Wi-Fi has had x-ray vision since 2013—reveals that privacy was always a myth. Maybe the new private is somehow magically public, existing only within emergent rituals whose meanings remain hidden, out of bounds.
